Dr. Aimé Daizomes

A French doctor specializing in infectious diseases, trying to bring the 1870s into the modern era of sterilization and germ theory. Currently developing on a vaccine for cholera, he's at the forefront of his field even if his methods are less than savory, though his collegues can't deny the validity of his results.

Henri Charmolipi

A fairly recent immigrant from the Ottoman Empire along with his sister, Henri owns and opperates a small bakery, working around the full moon schedule his lycanthropy has forced on him. His easy smile and quick jokes do not extend to the form he takes on the full moon, which remains out of his control.

Fatimah Charmolipi

After moving her brother and herself to France once she was sure the Commune was well established, Fatimah settled into her new life away from the clinging memories the Ottoman Empire held. Her stubbornly ambitious personality set her up for success in a society suddenly willing to let women do as they pleased, and her work on breaking into Paris' richest salons is matched only by her work in the classroom she leads.

Lady de Guise

A French ex-noblewoman who has managed to escape the consequences of quite a few revolutions in the span of her long, long life. She maintains her lifestyle as best she can in this age of social and political progress, throwing lavish parties that last from sunset into the small hours of the morning, making sure her tables are laden glasses of the finest meats and the freshest blood.

Silas Tanama

An Engilsh heir to a minor noble title, he has yet to take over his father's enterprise entirely, and spends most of his days chasing whatever pleasure he wishes. The lycanthropy he suffers from, and inflicted upon Henri at the end of his time in Paris, is easily managed on the vast grounds of his father's estate.

Sylvie de Marc is a factory union leader who befriended Aimé during the Seige of Paris and occasionally checks up on him.

Édgar Dufresne is a nervous priest set on developing a sure way to banish ghosts who becomes a unique test subject for Aimé.

Camille Mangane is a recluse artist living outside Lyon. Her magical powers curse her with the ability to see ghosts, but her portraits of the living pay the bills better than her portraits of the dead.

Joséphine Damour is a composer, married to the head of the Lyon Symphony. When her husband commissions a portrait for their anniversary, she falls head over heels for the mysterious woman tasked with painting her.
