CAELIDS

a species lineup with the caelid highlighted

Because of the recent contract between the reigning queen of Primula Industries and the wider Protectorate, as well as their continued alignment to state interests, Caelids enjoy a degree of freedom when it comes to governmental oversight. Typical methods of social, political, and economic control are limited by this contract, and alternative methods are still in development. Their home planet is often visited by people seeking medical treatment, especially genetic therapies, and their doctors are highly sought after in spacing ventures.

Even if they are not technically mammals, Caelids do give live birth, and healthy hybridization with humans is possible with medical supervision. They possess venomous fangs, though the venom itself is rarely fatal to organisms of a similar or larger size, and an additional segment in their limbs compared to humans. Due to their adaptations to warmer environments, they are not found with great frequency in spacing industries.

Caelid culture generally values success and productivity, typically in a monetary sense, though other metrics such as artistic skill and academic achievements are also sought after. Naming traditions reflect this, as following a given and family name individuals typically also hold a title in reference to their relative position within their organization. Competition between individuals, local companies, and between academic institutions is encouraged so long as it does not interfere with holistic productivity. Materialism plays a large part in culture as well, with expensive gifts being a common signal of affection or a reinforcement of social status.
