HUMANS
The only sapient species not native to the Tiger Claw Galaxy, humanity arrived in colony ships several centuries ago, fleeing a collapse of their own star system. Because they as a species lack a permanent home planet, humans make up the majority of both the civilian spacer population and military personnel. Their active participation allows the Protectorate’s continued far-reaching security, though this participation is not ubiquitously zealous.
Humans are morphologically similar to several native species, possessing two eyes, four limbs, and a fine coat of hair across the majority of their body. What makes them unique among the other populations in the galaxy is their ability to readily hybridize with other species, much more so than others, due to the flexibility of their genome. In a similar vein, genetic edits are comparatively common, with purely cosmetic alterations thus far being the only legal procedures. Though given the malleable potential of the human genome, resources are consistently spent on attempts to generate edits beneficial for military action. However, current technology faces the problem of subsequent generations after the primarily edited one retaining traits in increasingly diluted or off target forms.
Humans are widely viewed as adaptable crew members, able to fill whatever niches are left open and doing so with minimal social disturbance. Despite their non-native status, interspecies relations have been largely positive, easing their integration into the Protectorate and allowing the species as a whole to climb the ranks with little friction. This non-native status does, however, add an air of mystery to humanity, which itself does not know what really drove them from their home galaxy.
